What Are SureSmile Aligners®?
SureSmile® is a clear aligner system that uses a series of custom-made, nearly invisible dental trays to gradually shift your teeth into their desired position. The trays are made of smooth, comfortable plastic that won't irritate your gums and are virtually undetectable when worn. Because they're removable, you can take them out to eat, drink, brush, and floss as usual. You'll also have fewer food restrictions during treatment and won't have to worry about damaging wires or brackets.
What To Expect During SureSmile® Treatment
SureSmile® treatment is typically completed in 12-18 months. During treatment, you will wear a series of clear plastic aligners that are custom-made for your teeth. As you wear each set of aligners, your teeth will gradually shift into the desired position. You will need to wear the aligners for 20-22 hours each day and will need to visit the dentist every 6-8 weeks for check-ups.
You may experience some discomfort when you first start wearing the aligners, but this should subside after a few days. You may also notice that your aligners fit less snugly as your treatment progresses and your teeth begin to shift. This is normal and means that the treatment is working.
At the end of treatment, you will need to wear a retainer to maintain your new smile. Wearing a retainer is important because it will help to keep your teeth from shifting back into their original position.
